Flood Risk Assessments
Through Arco Safety Risk Management Services (SRMS) we are able to arrange Flood Risk Assessments for any site within the UK including Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
A Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) is a report that outlines the main flood risks to a development site and presents recommendations for mitigating measures to reduce the impact of flooding to the site and surrounding area.
A significant proportion of the UK is at risk of tidal, river or groundwater flooding. However, this does not mean that developments or redevelopments in these areas will not be approved. Flood Risk Assessment, as part of the planning process, ensures that developers are aware of the recommendations of the Environment Agency (EA) and suggests adequate mitigation measures to ensure that a development is sustainable and safe in terms of flood risk. Visit www.environment-agency.gov.uk to find out if your development site is at risk of flooding.
Arco offers three levels of FRA reporting in line with PPS25 and will advise on which is most appropriate for your development.
• FRA Level 1 - Screening Study
1. An initial enquiry into the site, to assess whether there is any flooding or surface water management issues which require further consideration.
• FRA Level 2 - Scoping Study
1. Qualitative appraisal of flood risk posed to site and potential impacts development will have on flood risk elsewhere.
2. Production of a Preliminary FRA including the possible measures to reduce flood risk and likely outcome of a full FRA.
• FRA Level 3 - Detailed Study
1. Undertaken if Preliminary FRA concludes further quantitative analysis is required to assess flood risk issues relating to development site.
2. Production of a FRA possibly including catchment analysis, hydraulic calculations and flood mitigation measures. The contents required will be decided after Environment Agency consultation.
