'Room for improvement' in health and safety
Categories: General Health and Safety |
A recent report has revealed that while there has been some improvements in the health and safety sector in the last few years, there is still work to be done. According to the study by Business Action on Health, the number of firms in the FTSE 100 index who report on health and well-being commitments is up, states Safety and Health Practitioner magazine.
The figures show that 81 per cent now take action of this sort compared with just 68 per cent the year previous.
Despite this, Business in the Community (BITC) still say that companies still have some way to go.
Louise Aston, campaign director for BITC, said the group was aiming to raise "the proportion of FTSE100 companies reporting and measuring on employee health, using quantitative measures, from 23 to 75 percent by 2011".
Firms looking to improve their safety record may wish to ensure that safety signs are erected in dangerous areas.
According to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers are required to protect staff and ensure their "health, safety and welfare" when in the workplace.
