Accident underlines need for construction health and safety procedures Businesses have been urged to provide employees with proper training, workwear and equipment when asking them to work at height.

The call comes from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after a Liverpool employee was seriously injured in a fall from unstable scaffolding.

A court heard how the worker was removing lifting chains from the top of the structure when it overturned and fell down an embankment, leading to the man plunging six metres to the ground.

"The scaffolding tower was being used during the construction of concrete columns, used to support the building's floors," explained HSE investigating inspector Mark Cuff.

He added that the company's decision to dismantle the structure had gone against its design and resulted in the accident.

The worker in question revealed he was injured on his fourth day of employment and said he has been in a lot of pain ever since.

Last week, HSE warned about the dangers of working at height after a cleaner was injured in Nottinghamshire.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19402463-ADNFCR
