Throughout the Humber region, many excited youngsters are eagerly anticipating the result of the Humberside Police Lifestyle project, which will be announced at the annual glittering awards ceremony on 7th November at Hull City Hall. Paul Lyons, Arco's Vendor Manager based at its Head Office on Waverley Street, Hull is one of the panel of judges that will face the hard decision of choosing the winning team from the final six. The teams will be presented with fantastic prizes and the team that wins the overall competition will be awarded a holiday of a lifetime in Florida!
Arco is helping to sponsor the Lifestyle project for the fourth year running. It is open to young people aged between 10 and 18, who live in the vicinity of or attend school in the Humberside police area. The project is designed to forge relationships between children, their communities and the local police. This summer, around 1,400 teams entered the competition, choosing a variety of projects to undertake throughout the summer. At the end of the school holidays, just six finalist teams of up to five 10-18 year olds were short-listed. .
As a recently appointed member of Arco's Internal Charity Committee, this is Paul Lyons' first year of working with Humberside Police on the Lifestyle Project. He said, 'Arco has employed people from the Hull and Humberside region for over a hundred years and consequently we have a strong interest and presence in the local community. We are delighted to support such a worthwhile project.'
After a day out and about on Monday visiting the six teams with the Lifestyle Project team and other judges, Paul said, 'I have to say that I was astounded at the dedication, enthusiasm and quality of work of the six finalist teams. All the children involved in the project have given an incredible amount of their time over the summer holidays to vastly improving areas within their local communities. One hears so much negativity about today's youth that I didn't expect to see such positive attitudes towards helping the community among so many of the region's young people. From clearing wasteland to providing cycle safety helmets to a local school, their ideas and hard work have produced fantastic results. And with a keen interest in health and safety, I was delighted to see that the six finalist teams I met had all included elements of safety within their projects. I am very much looking forward to the Awards Ceremony, but it will be a very hard decision as to the overall winner. In my mind they are all winners!'
Lisa Whitton, Lifestyle Project Coordinator at Humberside Police Force, added, 'Arco is a much valued long term supporter of the Humberside Police Lifestyle Project, sponsoring the Lifestyle Awards Ceremony, which recognises and rewards the thousands of young people throughout the Humber region who take part in the project annually. Many hours are spent on work to improve local communities and important life skills are learnt by all those participating during the long summer holidays.'
'Arco also strongly supports the Humberside Police Lifestyle Rock Challenge which encourages secondary school students to achieve a natural drug free high through performance. Schools compete at prestigious local venues to sell out audiences and this highly successful initiative has only been able to go from strength to strength due to the support of local businesses such as Arco.
