BSC welcomes report on HSE The British Safety Council (BSC) has today welcomed a publication by the Work and Pensions Committee on the role of the Health and Safety Commission and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in regulating health and safety in the workplace.

A number of recommendations were made regarding the effective utilisation of HSE resources and how better to tackle the "unacceptable level" of workplace fatalities in the UK.

BSC chief executive Brian Nimick says he will continue to work closely with the HSE to promote better working practices.

"This is not only about helping the HSE and businesses to meet their health and safety responsibilities, but also to remind employers that good safety is good business - a safe and healthy workforce can make them more productive and profitable," he comments.

Mr Nimick adds that businesses which put worker safety first and promote the use of personal protective equipment stand to save £7.8 billion a year.

Published last month, the BSC's annual survey revealed that 62 per cent of British workers had received little or no safety training from their employers.
