Blackpool to host food safety conference The Food and Drink Manufacture Health and Safety Forum and the Food and Drink Group of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) have teamed up to hold a conference between October 8th and 9th in Blackpool.

Among the subjects up for discussion at the event will be the Recipe for Safety initiative, accident investigation, manual handling and machinery safety.

Speakers will include Judith Hackitt, chair of the Health and Safety Executive, Simon Hatson of Britvic and Dr Clive Barker of United Biscuits.

While the industry has seen its accident rate halve since 1990, the IOSH said that "there's still much more to be done".

An awards ceremony to recognise projects that have made a positive impact on the protection of workers and general health and safety in the sector will also be held.

Firms in the food industry should ensure that all employees are provided with suitable food industry workwear.

The HSE website states that all equipment should be properly maintained and stored.
