British Retail Consortium joins BSC to improve safety The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has today announced plans to join forces with the British Safety Council (BSC), in an effort to improve the standard of workplace health and safety training.

It is reported that the organisations will work closely to provide training courses to employees within the retail sector - covering topics such as health and safety management, environmental health and compliance.

Commenting on the partnership, John Cormode, chief executive of BRC Trading, said: "I am very pleased to be working with the BSC to ensure that our members have access to the highest quality training, knowledge and expertise. Our members believe that proper training in health, safety and the environment protects staff and customers and is a good business investment."

BSC chief executive Brian Nimick said he was confident that the partnership would result in the reduction of workplace illnesses and injuries.

In other news, the BSC last week called for the government to introduce health and safety training in schools, after a roofing boss was jailed over the death of a young worker.
