British kitchens 'un-hygienic'

British kitchens 'un-hygienic' British kitchens are the most un-hygienic in the developed world, according to the findings of a recent study.

The Hygiene Council swabbed kitchens in seven different countries worldwide and the UK scored worst for cleanliness and for the presence of the E.coli bacteria.

It believed that almost 15 per cent of British kitchens are harbouring traces of the potentially dangerous bacteria and this is despite an apparent increase in hygiene awareness.

Furthermore, the Hygiene Council has revealed that while two-thirds of all British bathrooms are "satisfactorily" clean, the same can only be said for 45 per cent of kitchens, GMTV reports.

Meanwhile, the Food Standards Agency has recently launched an awareness campaign dubbed 'GermWatch', which it hopes will keep cases of salmonella and campylobacter to a minimum in the UK this summer.
