Catering professionals warned over safety dangers Restaurants present a number of hazardous areas for workers, it has been claimed.

Writing for ehow.com, Kristin Swain explained that accidents in restaurants often occur from handling sharp objects, carrying large or off-balance items or slipping on wet floors.

"These accidents are easily identified and, in many cases, preventable," she said.

"Restaurants require employees to follow safety rules while working to ensure a healthy work environment."

To this aim, Ms Swain recommended workers use safety shoes, which she explained are generally required for restaurant employees as a part of their work uniform.

She also stressed the importance of using safety signs to mark any hazards that have the potential to cause injury to employees or guests.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the construction and agriculture industries experience a disproportionately high number of injuries and fatalities.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19890107-ADNFCR
