Two Arco employees have raised around £3,000 for cancer care charities, by completing this years (Virgin) London Marathon
Runners Katrine Denley from Arco's Finance Department, and Sarah Shaw from Customer Services, both completed the Marathon is less than 5 hours and raised substantial amounts for charity.
Katrine Denley commented on how "thrilled" she was to have completed her fourth London Marathon, in four hours and fifty eight minutes. She added that "having taken part in two other marathons, London is still the best for atmosphere and crowd participation. I was wearing my club vest and there were many calls of 'Come on Hull' which helped me along the way as well as the support of my husband and other club members on the route. I have raised over a £1000 for the 'Jo Martin Cancer Care Trust', a worthy cause for which will probably be my last marathon."
Customer Services Manager, Sarah Shaw commented that the London Marathon was an "incredible experience" and one which "will never be forgotten". She went on to add that, "I completed the Virgin London Marathon (26.2 miles) in 4hrs 29mins. Sarah beamed "I have raised over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which I am so delighted about. It was such a hot day, but the crowd and the Team Macmillan cheer-points were amazing, inspiring and really spurred me on especially during the last few challenging miles. Seeing everyone on the start line, watching the BBC cameras over head, listening to the live commentary and waiting with all the other runners in Greenwich Park made those early winter morning training sessions worthwhile. I was overwhelmed to see the finish line on Pall Mall, what a relief. It was such an achievement, probably one of the hardest physical challenges I have ever completed." Having said this Sarah did go on to say that she would love to compete in it again at some point in the future!
