Cheshire council to hold health and safety campaign

Cheshire council to hold health and safety campaign Workers in Cheshire may soon be better informed about health and safety regulations after the local authority launched a campaign to debunk the myths surrounding the rules.

Cheshire West and Chester Council have signed up to the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) Sensible Risk initiative, which is designed to educate people on how risk assessments should be carried out properly.

It aims to dispel beliefs that the HSE bans things like wearing flip flops at work - a view held by a third of respondents to a survey taken earlier this year.

The government body's head of operations for the north-west Rick Brunt said he was delighted by the council's decision to join the campaign.

"We want to tackle the myths so that people turn their attention to the issues that are causing thousands of injuries in Cheshire every year," he revealed.

Mr Brunt explained that the HSE concentrates on issues that cause injuries - such as lifting, carrying, trips and falls.

The organisation revealed that there were seven deaths and 2,919 serious injuries in Cheshire workplaces in 2007/08.

Meanwhile, the HSE recently revealed it will be taking part in an event in Anglesey next month to highlight the risks associated with the construction industry.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19416999-ADNFCR
