Chester-based firm take top safety award Chester-based company Rok has been presented with the International Safety Award by the British Safety Council (BSC).

The accolade was given in recognition of the firm's continuing commitment to upholding the highest possible safety standards.

Recent initiatives within the company include the requirement that workers wear safety gloves when doing anything that may injure or damage their hands.

Shaun Davis, the director for safety, health and environment at Rok, stated that the firm was now working with the BSC to put stronger emphasis on "sensible safety".

Despite receiving the honour for its safety systems, Mr Davis asserted that the company was still striving to achieve five stars under the council's audit scheme by 2010.

Firms that receive ten to 14 of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident's Gold Awards receive a Presidents Award. Among these companies are Tolent Construction, Mansell Construction and Clugston Construction.
