Chip shop helps highlight dangers of slips and trips A firm that operates a number of chip shops in the Teeside and county Durham region is getting behind the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE's) Shattered Lives campaign.

The award-winning Barnacles has changed its menu and put "fish and slips" on its menu to highlight dangers in the workplace.

As well as providing food safety workwearfor staff, companies with food preparation areas need to ensure that employees are not exposed to situations where they could fall and injure themselves.

This could be caused by a wet floor, unsafe use of a ladder or a messy workspace.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton council's cabinet member for housing and community safety, said: "People often think that slips, trips and falls are trivial, even comical but they are no joke to those who suffer major injuries, time off work and a lifetime of disability."

Earlier this week, a number of top London businesses pledged their support for the HSE Shattered Lives scheme, including Brent Cross shopping centre, Greencore Group, Royal China Club restaurant and the Chinese Takeaway Association. ADNFCR-1200-ID-19095170-ADNFCR
