Cladding firm fined after worker falls through skylight A cladding firm has been fined after a worker fell almost four metres through an unprotected skylight on to a mezzanine floor.

The Llanelli-based company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £6,750.

Llanelli Magistrates' Court heard how the worker was re-cladding a retail outlet roof at Parc Troste when he fell through the unprotected skylight.

As a result, the worker suffered serious injuries including fractures to his ribs and back, as well as nerve damage to his leg.

Added to this, the fall caused him to suffer a loss of his memory and hearing.

Anne Marie Orrells, Health and Safety Executive inspector, said: "Openings such as skylights in roofs must have suitable protection around them to prevent workers from falling into them."

Workers should use safety helmets to reduce the risk of suffering serious injuries when working at height.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19713170-ADNFCR
