Companies must provide 'staff with health and safety training'

Companies must provide 'staff with health and safety training' It is important for firms of all sizes employing staff to ensure that they are fully trained on health and safety and that there is appropriate supervision in place, as well as the correct procedures in the event that an incident does occur.

Risk management assessments can help managers identify potential accidents waiting to happen, which they might otherwise not have thought about.

For example, aerosol use in a shop can be particularly dangerous if it is done near a naked flame, and can result in explosions.

The Health and Safety Executive advises that aerosols often use liquefied flammable gases as the propellant, as well as containing other flammable liquids in the ingredients, and has published a whole document dedicated to helping firms manufacture and store products safely.

Speaking after an incident involving an aerosol-related explosion, a London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "Never spray air freshener or deodorant near a candle or naked flame, as we've seen here the results can be extremely dangerous."

With explosive materials, safety signs should be used to warn staff members of the potential dangers.
