Companies warned to assess the dangers around heavy machinery The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has urged companies to conduct risk assessments on potentially dangerous machinery.

It stated that it is the responsibility of employers to ensure that workers are not exposed to any unnecessary risks from heavy machinery.

Businesses that fail to do so could be fined for breaching the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Russell Adfield, HSE principal inspector, said: "Industrial machinery presents many safety hazards and the proper safeguarding of equipment is essential if staff are to be protected."

He added that exposing staff to dangers of this kind is unacceptable and that the HSE would take action against negligent firms.

Employers looking to improve standards of health and safety should provide staff with personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hi vis clothing and safety gloves, in accordance with the PPE at Work Regulations 1992.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18937279-ADNFCR
