Construction companies urged to protect workers at height The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a statement urging companies that require employees to work at height to ensure that it is properly planned.

Work at height injuries accounted for 23 deaths between 2006 and 2007 and, according to HSE inspector Michael Brown, those involved in roofing or construction should be "well-versed" in safety measures.

Mr Brown commented: "I would like to remind those who manage or control work at height of the importance of ensuring that the work is properly planned by a competent person."

He added that it should always be suitably supervised and that when it is carried out, it should be done so in a safe manner.

Firms looking to improve the level of safety at their construction sites may wish to invest in safety helmets and adequate workwear.

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 categorise it as any job conducted in a way that could lead to injury if the employee falls, whether it is below or above ground level.
