Construction firm owner killed in accident A construction firm owner was killed after an accident happened while he was repairing a digger.

The man from County Antrim in Northern Ireland was crushed by the vehicle after the jacks supporting it apparently collapsed, according to his wife who was first on the scene.

"The jack or that must have fallen. I'm not 100 per cent sure of the actual circumstances. It seemed to be a low-loader and one of the sides collapsed or something," she told the Belfast Telegraph.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) says that this type of accident is the most common cause of fatalities in the motor vehicle repair industry.

This accident involving a firm owner highlights the fact that even experienced workers are at risk from heavy machinery.

Before workers undertake any job, the employer must carry out a risk assessment and issue the employees involved with sufficient safety equipment, such as safety helmets.
