Dairy farms to be subjected to fewer inspections

Dairy farms to be subjected to fewer inspections The obligation for keeping dairy farms sanitary and hygienic has always been placed with the management, but employers may feel it more heavily after the Food Standards Agency announced it is reducing inspections.

From tomorrow (July 1st), the organisation will be cutting the number of inspections to farms supplying milk for pasteurisation to one every two years, while members of the Red Tractor Assured Dairy Farm scheme will only be visited once every ten years.

Tim Smith, chief executive of the agency, commented: "The changes we are introducing will continue to ensure that consumers are protected while reducing the cost to the taxpayer of dairy inspections.

"The dairy industry has developed systems to ensure the safety of its products and it is only right that we look at ways of making inspections more proportionate to the risks," he added.

Meanwhile, dairy farm employees could don food industry workwear to lessen the risk of contamination and keep their workplace hygienic.
