Dangers of working at height reiterated by HSE The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has reiterated its warnings to companies in which employees work at height.

Representatives of the inspectorate noted that almost half of the fatalities sustained occur in the construction industry.

Angus Robbins, an HSE inspector, urged firms to ensure that all work was properly planned.

He stated: "Falls from height remain the most common cause of fatal injuries.

Latest figures show that 45 people died from a fall from height at work in 2006-07, with 3,750 suffering major injury."

Mr Robbins added that "sensible measures" should be taken to guarantee as far as possible the safety of workers on site.

The HSE provides guidelines and advice on how to improve safety in the construction industry, including information about personal protective equipment such as safety helmets and safety gloves, and where these items may be needed.
