Directors warned of possible bans for breaching safety guidelines Directors who do not make sure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in according with health and safety guidelines have been warned that they may face being banned from running companies.

Law firm DWF issued the statement after researchers from Warwick University, working in conjunction with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), said that greater sanctions need to be placed on bosses who break the rules.

Spokesperson for the company Steffan Groch said: "Directors should be warned. The HSE will be encouraging prosecutors to use their powers under the [Company Directors Disqualification] Act.

"It means that, for serious breaches of health and safety rules, they will not only risk a large fine but also could be banned from running a company."

The Health & Safety Executive issued 13,363 enforcement notices in 2005-06 and in 2006-07 increased the number of offences which it prosecuted from 1,056 to 1,141.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18401100-ADNFCR
