Distribution company fined over Cornish vineyard owner's death The owner of a vineyard has died after a delivery of empty wine bottles crashed onto him when they fell from the tail lift of a lorry he was helping to unload.

The load fell causing him to suffer fatal head and chest injuries.

As a result of the incident, the distribution company responsible pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Truro Crown Court fined the firm £200,000 and ordered it to pay cost of £16,993.

"This tragic accident highlights the dangers involved in unloading large and heavy loads using a tail lift," said Health and Safety Executive inspector Simon Jones.

"Employers should ensure that employees are given the right equipment, information, instruction and training to allow them to unload loads safely."

To help minimise the risk of such accidents, it is imperative Britons use appropriate workwear, which may include the use of safety boots and safety gloves.ADNFCR-1200-ID-800014438-ADNFCR
