EHOs take restaurant food course

Categories: General Health and Safety |

EHOs take restaurant food course Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) in Exeter are taking a break from health, safety and PPE inspections to engage in a three-day food safety initiative aimed at providing them with practical restaurant kitchen experience.

The scheme, which has been developed by Exeter city council will demonstrate to inspectors how food is prepared in commercial kitchens - while at the same time building on their knowledge of microbiology and PPE legislation, the Devon Express and Echo reports.

Councillor Connel Boyle, head of environment and leisure for Exeter commented: "The course will equip the EHO with the skills to understand the food content of the menus they see on their visits, allowing them to help the restaurant write safe methods and ultimately produce safe food."

This latest food safety initiative follows the council's announcement last week of plans to introduce a hygiene rating system for restaurants in the Exeter area.
