EU lifting PPE restrictions, according to report The EU could be about to lift restrictions on the development of improved personal protective equipment (PPE) by making changes which will enable manufacturers to be more innovative with protective textiles, it has been reported.

Under the title Lead Markets Initiative for Europe (LMI), firms in the protective gear industry, as well as those in eHealth, recycling and sustainable construction will be encouraged and helped to grow, according to PublicTechnology.net.

"Europe must develop innovation friendly markets in a more targeted way, creating conditions to facilitate the marketing of innovative products and services," said Gunter Verheugen, who manages the policies for industry and enterprise.

"The LMI has identified promising emerging markets in which the European Union has the potential to become world leader and where coordinated action is urgently needed."

According to LMI, the EU's PPE industry has the potential to grow by 50 per cent and is worth €10 billion (£7.57 billion), making it larger than the market in the US, only set to break the £7 billion mark by 2012, according to Specialist in Business Information.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18424773-ADNFCR
