Employers should implement 'proper plans' for working at height Employers have been reminded of the need for proper health and safety procedures when working at height after the severe injury of a construction worker.

A court fined the employer of the worker £8,000 after he fell from a crane, causing injuries to the head and ribs and forcing him to remain in hospital for several weeks with a swelling of the brain.

The Health and Safety Executive has spoken of the inexcusability of such accidents, stressing the need for correct risk assessment and the provision of appropriate training and supervision.

Employers should also be aware of the need to comply with the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Act of 1992, which dictates the necessity of workwear such as safety helmets and boots in instances such as these.

HSE inspector David Evans said: "Falls from height remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injury, but the vast majority of these accidents are preventable if companies assess the risks properly."ADNFCR-1200-ID-19186383-ADNFCR
