Employers urged to conduct risk assessments

Employers urged to conduct risk assessments workplaces to minimise the chance of an accident.

The Health and Safety Executive noted that this would help to identify where safeguards would be needed or where safety signs should be erected.

Roger Upfold, HSE inspector, commented: "[Employers should] undertake and review risk assessments in a way that correctly identifies all of the significant risks."

He added that this would ensure that appropriate preventative measures, such as the provision of safety helmets, could be taken.

In addition, the inspector said that workers should all be trained properly and consistently to reduce the chance that there will be an accident while at work.

This comes after the regulator issued a warning to companies who fail to make sure that safety signs are put up in dangerous areas, such as where there is a danger of falling.

It noted that work at height was often particularly dangerous and safety control measures should always be put in place and upheld to ensure the welfare of staff and the public. ADNFCR-1200-ID-19133041-ADNFCR
