Employers urged to take RSI seriously

Employers urged to take RSI seriously The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) has urged employers to protect workers from repetitive strain injury (RSI), ahead of International RSI Awareness Day on Friday.

According to research by the CSP, £300 million is lost by companies every year as a result of RSI issues, with each injured worker taking an average of 13 days as sick leave.

CSP spokesperson Bronwyn Clifford comments: "Why do we let this situation continue? Many thousands of people are suffering and employers are losing hundreds of millions of pounds every year through RSI."

Ms Clifford claims RSI can easily be prevented by employers providing workers with personal protective equipment and seeking the advice of occupational health physiotherapists.

The CSP says they want to see workers taking regular breaks, keeping warm and avoiding repetitive tasks.

According to the most recent RSI statistics from the Health and Safety Executive, construction, health and manufacturing workers are the group most affected by work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
