Employers warned about falls from height The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to employers about the possible consequences that could arise after a worker's fall from height.

It noted that falls do not have to be from a big height in order to cause serious injuries, which could have an effect on the lives of staff.

HSE inspector Clare Owen commented: "Falls from height remain a major cause of workplace injuries, with falls from below or around head height contributing to around 70 per cent of all major fall injuries."

Employers who fail to take into account the potential dangers could find themselves prosecuted if one of their workers sustains an injury.

Companies looking to improve the safety of staff when jobs are being conducted at height may wish to install safety signs to notify them that there may be falling objects.

In addition, providing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety helmets may help prevent an incident.

The PPE at Work Regulations 1992 state that PPE should be provided where necessary and should be well-maintained.
