Employers warned after worker is crushed The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned employers to ensure that they conduct adequate risk assessments and maintain their equipment following the prosecution of a multinational company.

A worker for the firm was crushed when a truck reversed causing serious injuries.

Following a guilty plea from the company, it was fined £45,000 and ordered to pay almost £20,000 in costs.

Other employers wishing to avoid similar action should ensure that there are suitable safety signs in dangerous areas and that workers wear hi vis clothing and safety helmets where appropriate.

Julie Rayner, HSE inspector, commented: "This tragic incident makes it clear to employers that they need to take positive action to maintain equipment."

The HSE is currently investigating an injury to a dock-worker last month after he was crushed by a one-tonne sack of potatoes, reports the Kent News.
