Employers warned to assess risks The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has urged companies to ensure they conduct suitable risk assessments in the workplace.

It stated that many incidents could be prevented if employers establish safe practices, hire competent people and regularly assess and minimise the risk.

Wayne Owen, HSE inspector, said: "HSE produces a wide range of guidance to assist companies that carry out lifting and moving operations to identify risks."

He noted that lack of information, instruction, training and planning, can all contribute to potentially dangerous accidents.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states that every employer should ensure that staff are protected as far as is "reasonably practicable".

Companies can also reduce the number of incidents in the workplace by providing employees with personal protective equipment (PPE).

This may include installing safety signs or training staff in the correct use of hi vis clothing or safety boots, in accordance with the PPE at Work Regulations 1992. ADNFCR-1200-ID-18921368-ADNFCR
