Employers warned to put guards on heavy machinery The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned firms to ensure that they properly protect staff from injuries caused by heavy machinery.

It added that staff should be properly trained in the use of potentially dangerous machines.

Maureen Kingman, principal inspector of Health and Safety for Nottingham, said: "All companies should ensure that work is risk-assessed and appropriate measures are put in place so that workers' safety is not compromised."

She noted that it is also the responsibility of employers to ensure that machines are properly maintained and that they will stop completely when an emergency trip device is activated.

Companies looking to ensure staff are aware of the hazards they face from each piece of equipment might wish to install safety signs near these areas.

The HSE recently told manufacturing firms to ensure that only competent people are asked to conduct potentially dangerous tasks. ADNFCR-1200-ID-18935932-ADNFCR
