FPB: Health and safety more pressing than environmental waste

FPB: Health and safety more pressing than environmental waste Health and Safety training is of more critical importance to small businesses than action against environmental waste.

That is according to a report commissioned by UK200 on behalf of the Federation of Private Businesses (FPB) which found that up to a half of businesses listed updating staff and health training as a 'major concern'.

The study also found that 58 per cent of UK firms did not have an environmental policy.

Commenting on the study, Harry Katz, principle of Norwest Consultants, believes that government health and safety legislation is the reason behind the figures.

He said: "There are also massive amounts of red tape and bureaucracy tied to health and safety which means employers have to spend a disproportionate amount of time and resources dealing with it which could be spent on cutting waste.

Companies are having to spend far too much time and money insuring themselves against imaginary risks rather than focusing on growing their businesses."

One way to safeguard worker safety in a practical way is to supply good quality workwear such as safety boots and safety helmets.
