FPB issues Corporate Manslaughter Act warning The Forum of Private Business (FPB) is warning UK companies, freight transport firms in particular, to be prepared for the Corporate Manslaughter Act which comes into effect next week.

Under the new act, businesses neglecting health, safety and personal protective equipment regulations can be named and shamed and fined ten percent of their turnover, should a death occur as a result of safety failures.

The FPB's policy representative, Matt Goodman, advised: "Because of the relatively high instances of road fatalities, business owners in the transport industry - and those who provide company cars - should make sure their employees are fully aware of health and safety best practice."

Mr Goodman added that it was important for firms to establish "clear health and safety procedures" or face serious consequences.

The act will come into force on April 6th.
