FSAI warns food industry The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has warned those involved in the food industry to ensure that they adhere to "best practice".

Dr John O'Brien, chief executive of the FSAI, noted that Ireland has seen a high number of premises closed in the last month, reports the Press Association.

He commented: "Our main priority is the safety of the consumer in relation to food, and the food they purchase must be produced to the highest standards attainable."

Dr O'Brien added that those firms who fail to follow the regulations surrounding food preparation and safety could face "consequences such as enforcement orders".

Companies looking to improve their standards may wish to provide their workers with suitable food safety workwear.

In the last two months, Ireland and the UK has seen over 70 people come down with salmonella.

Over 25 premises have been served with orders to close in the past year.
