FSA launches ad campaign for food hygiene scheme Food businesses in Wales are set to have attention drawn to their hygiene ratings as the Food Standards Agency launches an awareness raising campaign for its Food Hygiene Rating System.

The advertising programme will focus on food outlets including restaurants, cafes, hotels, pubs and takeaways, as well as supermarkets and other food shops.

It is a bid to make consumers more aware of the different ratings awarded under the scheme, where a mark of five means an outlet's standards of cleanliness are very good and a zero means immediate action is required to improve levels of sanitation.

Steve Wearne, director of the agency in Wales, commented: "It is now important that the consumer is made aware of the scheme and what it means for them.

"With this scheme, a simple rating on a sticker gives consumers the information they need to choose the places with the best hygiene standards when they eat out or buy food," he added.

Food business leaders could invest in food industry workwear to help drive up standards of hygiene.
