FSA unveils new hygiene initiative The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a nationwide campaign to help businesses comply with food hygiene regulations.

FSA's new scheme is designed to raise awareness among businesses regarding practical approaches to ensuring the safety of food.

Posters, radio adverts and online messages will all be used to promote the initiative.

The campaign is specifically targeted at catering companies that supply food direct to consumers.

Sarah Appleby, the FSA's head of enforcement, explained that the campaign will supplement the work done by local authorities to make sure that food companies comply with the regulations.

She continued: "It is also to give businesses the opportunity to achieve higher ratings for the rollout in 2010 of the national 'scores on the doors' scheme for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the Food Hygiene Information Scheme in Scotland."

The so-called 'scores on the doors' scheme exists to help consumers make educated decisions regarding where they eat out and to encourage companies to improve overall hygiene standards.

Food processing workers are required to use food industry workwear items such as an apron, according to the personal protective equipment regulations (1992).ADNFCR-1200-ID-19576780-ADNFCR
