A new safety initiative has been launched for under-fives in Cornwall. The early learning fire safety (ELFS) project helps educate children on the importance of safety and the potential risks.
The ELFS scheme was been developed entirely by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, while funding is provided by the South West Regional Efficiency and Improvement Partnership Project Board.
Des Tidbury, chief fire officer at Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, explained that the ambition of the project is to emphasise fire safety "from a very young age".
"The service aims to get out there and deliver safety messages to all age groups and I see this initiative as an invaluable addition to that commitment," he said.
The children were given information and advice by fire-fighters from the Kernoweth Fire and Rescue Service.
According to the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations (1992), fire service workers are required to use safety boots and safety helmets to protect themselves from serious injury.
