Firefighters to promote local health and safety initiative Cheshire fire and rescue service is aiming to complete 1,000 home safety assessments in the space of one day.

To mark Cheshire Fire Safety Day (February 17th) firefighters will be joined by partners and sporting celebrities as they go from door-to-door providing Britons with potentially life-saving advice.

The aim is to visit 1,000 homes across Cheshire in a bid to promote fire safety and highlight the work of the fire service.

Mark Cashin, Cheshire [Fire and Rescue Service's deputy chief fire officer, stated: "Cheshire Safety Day will not only seek to pass on potentially life-saving advice to another 1,000 homes, it will also hopefully highlight what we do on a daily basis and the difference it is making."

Cheshire has experienced a 23 per cent fall in the number of house fires and a 75 per cent drop in the number of injuries caused by a fire in the home in the last 12 months.

Firefighters are required to wear high visibility jackets and safety helmets when they are dealing with a blaze.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19616240-ADNFCR
