Firms invited to give opinion on 'red tape'

Firms invited to give opinion on 'red tape' Companies working in a range of industries have been invited to give their opinions about the health and safety legislation they are required to comply with on a daily basis.

Employment minister Chris Grayling said the Red Tape Challenge allows employees and managers in all types of employment to have their say about which bits of regulation are redundant or add to their workload.

"We have already started sweeping reforms to health and safety, but need the experience and insight of those most affected by red tape to help us root out needless bureaucracy and restore common sense to the heart of the system," the minister said.

"The purpose of health and safety regulation must be to protect people at work, not interfere unnecessarily. We will listen and we will act on what people have got to say, so it's never been more important for people to make their voice heard."

Employers should still ensure their staff use appropriate workwear when carrying out potentially dangerous tasks.

There are various kinds of clothing that are designed to provide various kinds of protection - the wrong protective clothing may not only fail to protect you properly but may actually be considered a hazard in some circumstances and situations.
