Firms warned about falls from height Companies have been warned by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to ensure that work at height near vehicles is conducted safely.

Judith McNulty-Green, an HSE inspector for Lincolnshire, noted that three million people work near vehicles on a regular basis.

She added that staff and employers often consider working at height near vehicles, and loading and unloading, are often considered to be "incidental" to the main job, leading to a failure to fully consider the implication of working high up.

Ms McNulty-Green commented: "All companies must assess the risks from work they are undertaking at height and ensure that the work is planned properly and appropriate measures are taken so that workers are not at risk of falling."

Companies may be able to raise awareness of hazardous areas by installing safety signs in dangerous spots.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers to ensure that the welfare of staff is assured as far as is "reasonably practical".
