Firms warned of the dangers of fragile roofs The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to construction companies performing work on fragile roofs.

This came after an employee of a London company was struck by a glass panel falling from above.

Joanna Woodcock, HSE inspector, commented: "I urge companies to take heed and put in place measures which prevent their workers falling through fragile roof sheets."

She added that accidents could be avoided if simple measures were taken and said that many incidents were "entirely preventable".

Installing safety signs in areas that are potentially hazardous could help to protect workers from sustaining serious injuries.

Providing them with safety helmets is another basic action that construction companies can take to ensure the welfare of employees.

In related news, the HSE recently held two half-day events in the north-west to educate construction firms on health and safety precautions and proper practice when working at height.
