Firms warned to check guards on machinery Firms are being warned to check that they have installed suitable guards on dangerous machinery to prevent injury to employees.

The reminder was issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which noted that failure to do this could result in prosecution as companies would be in breach of section two of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

This states that it is the responsibility of employers to ensure that as far as possible, they guarantee the health, safety and welfare of staff at work.

Paul Yeadon, HSE inspector, commented: “The Health and Safety Executive will not hesitate to prosecute employers who put the health and safety of their workers in danger, or employees who similarly endanger their colleagues."

As well as guarding machinery, bosses should ensure that the appropriate personal protective equipment is supplied where necessary, such as safety boots, hi vis clothing and spill kits.

Information on this can be found on the HSE website which offers advice and guidelines on the correct use and maintenance of safety gear.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18742958-ADNFCR
