Firms warned to conduct risk assessments The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned employers to ensure that they conduct suitable risk assessments on dangerous machinery following the fining of a firm from Coine.

After pleading guilty to a number of breaches of health and safety regulations, the company were ordered to pay £7,000 in fines and court costs.

The inspectorate investigated two incidents in which workers sustained injuries to their hands whilst working with unguarded machinery.

Sheldon Taylor, the HSE inspector involved in the case, commented: "Companies have a responsibility for the health and safety of their employees which includes carrying out proper risk assessments and machines being guarded."

He added that the incidents were entirely avoidable and that while the injuries were relatively minor, they could have been far worse.

The HSE guidelines advise employers to provide their workers with adequate personal protective equipment - such as safety gloves – and to erect safety signs in dangerous areas.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18703864-ADNFCR
