Follow procedures to avoid accidents, businesses told

Follow procedures to avoid accidents, businesses told The correct safety signs and equipment should be in place and any technology being used in a workplace should be fit for purpose.

This is according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which issued the warning with the aim of protecting the UK's workers.

It urged companies to invest in the correct equipment, workwear, training and procedures to ensure the risk of accidents is minimised.

HSE inspector James Powell explained firms have a responsibility to protect workers from harm.

"Companies should remember that they are responsible for ensuring that all their employees, whether directly employed by them or not, are entitled to work in the safest possible environment with equipment that is fit for purpose," he said.

The comments follow a separate HSE warning earlier this week, which recommended businesses carry out a risk assessment over whether any substance they use may cause dermatitis.

It explained that the correct safety gloves should be issued to staff, with employers ensuring the workwear is fit for purpose.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19380152-ADNFCR
