Football stars back asbestos campaign Two stars of the football world have expressed their support for the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) Asbestos: The Hidden Killer campaign.

As the body took the initiative to Wales, the manager of Swansea City FC Roberto Martinez spoke out of his shock at how many tradesmen were killed by the substance.

Former England international Ian Wright also said that he backed the campaign, noting that in his younger days he had worked as a plasterer.

He commented: "[I] was really surprised to learn that the number of deaths is actually on the increase year on year."

Terry Rose, director of the HSE in Wales, said that it was important to educate workers about the dangers of asbestos and stated that it would be necessary to change the way many people work.

Employers looking to improve the safety of staff who may be exposed to asbestos should provide workers with safety gear and suitable workwear, according to guidelines published by the HSE.
