Free event will discuss preventing accidents on construction sites Construction firm owners and staff in the north-west are being invited to attend a free safety awareness day in Hyde Town Hall later this month in order to learn about keeping safe at work.

The aim of the February 10th event is to improve standards in the potentially risky industry and prevent further avoidable casualties and deaths.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) officer Joseph Wood commented: "These latest figures show that construction is still one of Britain's most dangerous industries, with one death and nearly 400 serious injuries in Greater Manchester alone last year.

"We're here to offer support and advice to construction companies and their employees, and are encouraging builders to come along to this free event," he added.

The HSE is also running a six-month programme in which officers will pay visits to sites in the region to offer support and advice to staff and employers, particularly to those working on domestic properties.

Bosses could keep their workforce safe on construction sites by requesting them to wear safety helmets.
