Future fibres to improve PPE

Future fibres to improve PPE New materials, known as future fibres, are being developed in order to try and improve personal protective equipment (PPE).

Research is being carried out at the University of Cambridge to develop new types of carbon fibre "with remarkable properties and enormous potential," the BBC reported.

It will mostly be used to develop body armour but could also be used, for example, in aeroplane engines to protect them from debris.

Dr Marcello Motta from the research team said: "What we're all hoping to do is create the strongest fibre made yet."

The material will be very light and easily woven, while also being incredibly strong.

It is possible that such a material could be the future of the PPE industry and the UK and US militaries have both expressed an interest.

The team says that it is better than Kevlar in a lot of areas.

As those in the PPE business are possibly aware, Kevlar is currently one of the most common substances used for creating body armour.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18341439-ADNFCR
