Glasgow to host consultation event The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued an invitation to Scottish workers to attend an event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on January 29th and to have their say on the new HSE strategy.

Called Be Part of The Solution, the scheme hopes to encourage strong leadership and a more common sense approach to safety issues.

In addition, the aim of the initiative is to build the competence of those charged with improving health and safety in the workplace.

Judith Hackitt, HSE chair, said: "We are calling on all those involved in workplace health and safety - employers, self-employed, employees, trades unions, manufacturers, suppliers - to work with us on delivering these goals."

She added that local authorities and the HSE cannot achieve this by themselves and that they need as much support as they can get.

Companies looking to improve the protection offered to staff in dangerous jobs such as construction should provide them with personal protective equipment PPE.

The PPE at Work Regulations 1992 states that employers have a responsibility to train workers in the use of safety gear such as hi vis clothing and safety gloves.
