Good food hygiene ratings encourage customers

Good food hygiene ratings encourage customers Catering firms and restaurants might be aware that food hygiene ratings can make or break a consumer's decision to spend their hard-earned money on a meal out.

This is why it is important for staff to be aware of health and safety policies in kitchens and places where food is stored, prepared and eaten.

However, Chad.co.uk reports that certain food outlets in Ashfield have not been paying attention to hygiene advice and have received the lowest possible score of no stars in inspections by council officials.

One restaurant in the town was found to be dirty and staff were not encouraged to wash their hands regularly, while inspectors found the owner's uniform to be unclean when they visited.

The rating of no stars means the eateries have to improve quickly or be shut down.

Ashfield District Council's commercial team leader Glen Beaver told the website: "We do a lot of work with the owners to bring the establishments up to standard."

Companies that deal with catering could invest in food industry workwear to improve hygiene levels.
