Government gives backing to safety awards evening A government watchdog has pledged its support to an annual awards ceremony that recognises health and safety standards across the UK.

The Health and Safety Executive has announced it will lend its backing to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' (RoSPA) annual Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

The RoSPA awards are designed to honour the hard work of public liability insurers and are the longest-running and most highly respected occupational safety award programmes.

Of the announcement, the HSE said: "We share RoSPA's view that competent health and safety advice, along with visible committed safety leadership, enables organisations to reduce accidents and ill health in a cost-effective way.

"They also promote effective health and safety management as a vital part of good business and the sharing of best practice."

The HSE encourages Britons to follow the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992, which, for instance, state that safety boots should be worn by construction industry workers.

The RoSPA is a registered charity and was established more than 90 years ago.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19565480-ADNFCR
